Heart rate variability (HRV) is an accurate method to assess autonomic nervous system (ANS) function. The ANS acts mainly unconsciously and regulates bodily functions such as heart rate, vasoconstriction and respiratory rate in order to prepare the body to any external or internal stressor. Thus, HRV is widely used by health and wellbeing professionals who need an objective measure of physiological stress and recovery related for example to occupational stress or effects of physical therapy (physiotherapy), relaxation techniques, lifestyle interventions etc. In addition, HRV is a commonly used tool in the research of different cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and their risk factors.

Compatible measurement devices

Kubios HRV software products are compatible with most of the HR monitors on the market, with several commonly used electrocardiogram (ECG) devices, and with some photoplethysmogram (PPG) devices. The requirement for HRV analysis is that you need to have either beat-to-beat RR or IBI data, or raw ECG or PPG data. For accurate HRV analysis we recommend either a good quality HR sensor (e.g. Polar H10) or an ECG device. Software designed for professionals

Kubios HRV software products are designed for scientific research and professional use offering the most detailed HRV analysis on the market. Our proprietary algorithms for parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) and sympathetic nervous system (SNS) indexes provide a powerful tool to evaluate physiological stress and recovery. In addition to the summary variables, over 40 HRV analysis parameters are reported including time-domain, frequency-domain and  nonlinear parameters. Reliability and accuracy of HRV results is guaranteed when using our robust beat detection and accurate beat correction algorithms. The software generates a graphical report including all HRV results, but you can also export the numeric results for research purposes.

Mobile App having two modes of operation: 1) Daily readiness measurement mode and 2) Custom measurement mode (coming soon). Using the readiness measurement mode you can perform short-term HRV measurements from your test subjects or instruct them to start taking  daily HRV measurements. You have access to the data via Kubios Cloud. The custom measurement mode (coming soon) will enable you to make short- and longer-term measurements of RR, ECG or PPG data (depending on the sensor) in or outside the lab.

Kubios Cloud

Kubios Cloud is a gateway to all data that you have measured using our mobile app, but it is also a solution for B2B customers who want to integrate our gold-standard HRV analytics into their own application or product. Kubios Cloud analytics includes automatic correction of missed, extra and misaligned (including ectopic) beats to ensure reliability of analysis results. The main HRV parameters, including the PNS and SNS indexes, are computed and returned to your application. The service runs in AWS and is easily integrated into your application via RESTful API.
