Kubios HRV Mobile App Coming Soon

We are happy to announce that we are developing a mobile application. The Kubios HRV App will bring our heart rate variability (HRV) algorithms, used by scientists all over the world, to everybody for monitoring their own wellbeing. Kubios HRV App will have two modes of operation:

  1. Recovery Measurement Mode for monitoring changes in your daily recovery status. By doing short (1-5 mins), controlled recovery measurements regularly, you will receive reliable information about your physiological recovery, how it changes from day to day, and how your HRV values compare with normal population values. Recovery monitoring is used by professional athletes in training optimization but can also be used by sports enthusiasts or anyone interested in their wellbeing, as it provides objective information about overall bodily stress as well as cardiovascular health.
  2. Custom Measurement Mode designed for researchers, health and wellbeing professionals, and sport scientists for performing various types of HRV recordings. This measurement mode will support test-subject management, short- and longer-term measurements, live data acquisition through Polar SDK (see explanation below), as well as event markers.

Kubios develops HRV analysis software products (Kubios HRV Standard and Premium) that have achieved gold-standard status in scientific research, used at roughly 1200 universities in 128 countries. Kubios HRV App uses the same HRV algorithms that are used in our desktop software. The main HRV parameters include the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) and sympathetic nervous system (SNS) indexes, the computations of which have been optimized, using a large reservoir of scientific research results, to provide accurate interpretation of recovery and stress.

Kubios HRV App, built with Polar mobile SDK, can read live data from Polar sensors, including ECG and RR data from Polar H10 sensors and live PPG and PPI data from optical Polar OH1 sensors. These data streams are supported in the custom measurement mode, providing an easy-to-use, light-weight, affordable approach for ECG, PPG and RR/PPI recordings. Regarding RR recording, the App supports also other Bluetooth HR sensors available on the market.

We aim to release Kubios HRV App for Android and iOS by the end of the year. The recovery measurement component will be free.
