What equipment do my study participants need?
Participants need only a compatible smartphone with the free Kubios HRV app. The new accelerometer-based measurement (Beta feature) removes the need for any other hardware. For studies requiring the absolute highest precision, participants can optionally use a validated ECG chest strap sensor like the Polar H10.
Can I prevent participants from seeing their own data?
Yes. For blinded studies or to prevent data from influencing participant behavior, you have full control over data visibility. The “Hide Results” feature allows participants to complete their measurements without seeing any scores or feedback in their app.
Is HRV data collection complicated for the participants?
Not at all. The process is designed to be quick and easy, fitting seamlessly into a morning routine. The measurement itself typically takes less than 5 minutes. Participants simply open the app, follow the instructions, and relax for the duration of the reading. This simplicity ensures high compliance and consistent data for your research project.
Do I have access to the raw HRV data?
Yes. You have full access to our in-depth HRV metrics—including all standard time-domain and frequency-domain parameters—which are available for export. For data quality verification, you can also view the raw RR interval data for any selected readiness measurement directly within the software’s user interface.
In what format can I export the HRV data?
You can export detailed HRV results for your entire cohort as a CSV, Excel, or XML file. In addition, you can create individual PDF reports illustrating stress and recovery trends during the monitoring period, which can be utilized to provide study participants post-study feedback.
How is participants' data protected and kept private?
We take data privacy and security very seriously. All participant data is securely stored, and as the study administrator, you have full control over your participant groups and data access. Our platform is designed to be GDPR compliant, ensuring a high standard of data protection. Individual participant data is confidential and is only visible to you (the researcher) and the individual participant.
How does the participant onboarding process work for large projects?
Our platform is built to be simple and scalable. You can easily onboard new participants or entire groups by sending them a unique invitation key. The participants then download the free Kubios HRV app, create an account, and join your group with the key. The entire process is managed from your central study dashboard, making it effortless to manage your study population, whether you’re cohort includes twenty participants or several hundred.
